Ignyq™ vs Boldin

Boldin and ProjectionLab are retirement planners you use in a web browser and pay for every year. Ignyq™ is a retirement planner and investment toolkit that runs on your own computer — and you can buy it once.

The short answer

Same goal, different place for your plan to live.

All three tools try to answer the same question: will my money last, and what should I do about Roth conversions, Social Security and withdrawals? The difference is where your plan lives and how you pay for it.

Boldin and ProjectionLab keep your plan on their servers and charge a yearly subscription. Ignyq™ keeps your plan in an encrypted file on your own computer, works offline, and offers a one-time lifetime license alongside yearly plans.

Credit where it is due

What Boldin does that Ignyq™ does not.

  • A free plan. Boldin Basic costs nothing. Ignyq™ has a 30-day free trial, then it is paid.
  • Live account linking. Boldin connects to your accounts through data aggregators so balances update on their own. Ignyq™ imports files you download from your broker or bank instead.
  • Classes, community and human help. Boldin offers live classes and Q&A sessions, plus a separate flat-fee service with a CFP® professional. Ignyq™ is software only.
  • Any device, anywhere. Because it is a website, Boldin opens on any browser. Ignyq™ runs on your Mac, Windows 11 or Linux computer.

If those matter most to you, Boldin is a good choice and we would rather say so here.

The real differences

Privacy, depth, and how you pay.

1. Your retirement plan stays on your computer

A retirement plan is a complete map of your finances: balances, income, Social Security estimates, ages, goals. In Ignyq™ that map lives in an encrypted file on your own machine. Your financial data never leaves your computer, there is no Ignyq™ account to create, and there is no Ignyq™ server holding a copy.

2. The retirement questions that matter, built in

Ignyq™'s Wealth plan includes a Retirement Planner, Roth Conversion Analyzer, Social Security Optimizer, FIRE Calculator, Portfolio Withdrawal Strategy, and a Withdrawal Rate Methods tool that compares the 4% rule, Guyton-Klinger guardrails, VPW and RMD-based withdrawals with a Monte Carlo success check. Medicare planning, annuity evaluation, long-term care, estate planning, asset location and an Investment Policy Statement generator are in the same suite.

3. A real investment toolkit next to the plan

Retirement planners usually stop at your account balances. Ignyq™ also analyzes what is inside them: 45+ investment analysis modules covering valuation, risk, diversification, momentum and portfolio performance, with optional AI research using your own key from Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok or Meta. Advanced quant tools such as portfolio optimization, Monte Carlo and backtesting are in the Elite plan.

4. Buy it once if you prefer

Boldin PlannerPlus is $144 a year, rising to $168 a year for new subscribers on October 15, 2026. ProjectionLab Premium is $129 a year. Ignyq™ Wealth is $229 a year — or $549 once, and it is yours to keep.

What it costs to keep using it

The subscription math

At $168 a year, Boldin PlannerPlus comes to $840 over five years and $1,680 over ten. The Ignyq™ Wealth lifetime license is $549 once, so it costs less than Boldin from year four on.

If you only want to try retirement planning for a year or two, a subscription — or Boldin's free plan — may cost you less. The lifetime license pays off for people who plan to keep planning.

See it with your own portfolio. The trial runs on your computer with full access — nothing to sign up for.

Common questions

Can I bring my plan over from Boldin or ProjectionLab?

Not automatically. You enter your accounts, income and goals in Ignyq™, or import holdings from a broker CSV file. Most people can set up a first plan in under an hour.

Does Ignyq™ connect to my bank or brokerage?

Not live. You download a file from your broker (CSV) or bank (OFX/QFX) and Ignyq™ imports it on your computer. It never asks for your bank login. File import is an Elite feature; you can also enter balances by hand on any plan.

Is Ignyq™ a financial adviser?

No. It is software for people who plan for themselves. It does not give investment advice or manage money.

What if I stop paying?

A lifetime license keeps working on the version you own, offline, for good. Your plan is a file on your own computer.
